Title: Highland Hello!
Description: hope nobody minds a breed interloper??

kirkcarrion - March 8, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
Hello, I recognised a few names on here and wondered if anyone would mind a Highland interloper on a Fell board??? :crossfingers:

For those who don't know me I breed Highlands under the Kirkcarrion studname and currently have just 8 ponies (used to be 18 and more recently 12) so it's feeling very strange and I've been wondering why sorting out company for my ridden gelding Aidan is so difficult all of a sudden! :dunno:

I have my stallion Bratach of Kirkcarrion, 2 mares in foal to him for spring Fiona and Rowena, plus Briagh, Ribhinn and Rabhan all ready to breed this year, plus Aidan who's 13 and a 2yo colt (gelding next week all being well!) who is my stallion's half brother and was supposedly going to Devon in January as a stallion but it all fell through so I've kept a spare entire for a year for nothing :gaah:

Having been very good and sold most of the ponies off, I have considered giving up breeding altogether but the rebound is starting and I have just seen an ad for a broodmare that I'm twitching about and have sent a message to ask the price

Those who know me will be more surprised by the sales than the twitch to collect more but there again I also have an old ambition to have a black Dales mare one day to breed a Kirkcarrion Dales Stud from - Kirkcarrion is a hill fort in Teesdale where I originally came from so it seems odd I'm now in Fife breeding Highlands but nobody said I can't do both as long as I keep the numbers down and/or get some help! (with the ponies and/or therapy for my pony addiction!)

Anyway, that's me, look forward to an occasional visit but probably not a heavy poster, work stuff you know... :nono:

Hi nice to meet you.

The world is very strange. I live in the Highlands and have Fells so I dont see why you cant have a herd of Dales but you would be better with Fells.

Hi Gina, good to hear from you too

Some of you others I'm not sure if I should recognise under a different name or if you're just lovely friendly people I've never spoken to before - or both obviously!

Thanks for all the welcomes anyway, I'm sure I'll work out who I know eventually :wink2:

Hi Ellie,
It's lovely to hear from you again.

Jacqui :)

kirkcarrion - March 13, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
Jacqui as in Jacquidales off DF? Or ???

Flash/Jet ok can get that in my head eventually

:omg: confused or what, but lovely to be welcome despite the non-blackness of my pones! :thanx:

Yes I've a rising 2yo yellow dun colt for sale Braigheach - he was meant to be cut yesterday but the vet sprained his ankle so Brai is on reprieve for a while. He is lovely and stallion potential conformationally but too many hormones with his elder half brother as my breeding stallion in the same field! He's gone very dubious about leading at the mo and picking up hind feet for the farrier - probably because he's worried Brats will go for him if he is restrained or unable to move freely in the opp direction and it's a fair plea but just not helpful when you're working alone. :help:

I also have a rising 5yo beautiful yellow dun mare who I adore but she has sweet itch and my field is very midgey in Fife up by the forest and with running water through it. I need to get the neck off her too as she got very fat after the other ponies were sold and could easily get laminitic if not worked or bred soon. I'll breed her in spring if not sold to avoid this, but the rest of her bod is thinning down and she looks like a topheavy elephant with this huge cresty neck on a more normal bod so I doubt anyone would love her but me right now!

The other 6 are staying for the time being I think, and Ribhinn (the 5yo) probably will end up here for the short term til I get her looking better but I'm open to meeting people that can see through it and manage it so it doesn't happen again in future!
